(WSBT)  A South Bend police officer was treated and released for injuries after a 5 car wreck north of the city Thursday.

Jamil Elwaer was westbound on Cleveland road, responding to a call, with his lights and siren activated.

Police say Elwaer stopped at the intersection before proceeding, but was hit by an SUV.

The squad car then crashed into a third vehicle, with the SUV hitting two more cars.

Elwaer was treated and released at Memorial Hospital.
